It will take a long time for existing 3G mobile communication systems evolving to LTE systems. In 2006,3GPP launched the evolution project of HSPA, also known as HSPA+. HSPA+ needs to maintain the backward compatibility to 3GPP R6 version and be close to the performance of LTE in 5MHz bandwidth. HSPA+ provides a smooth path from HSPA to LTE, and allows equipment manufacturers and telecom operators to improve the existing 3G system performance with low complexity and cost in the near future.Domestic telecom operators have begun to deploy the HSPA+ system gradually. The improvement of data service performance brought by the application of different detection algorithms, MIMO technologies and high order modulation such as 64QAM needs to be studied. Meanwhile, the data service performance comparison of TD-SCDMA's HSPA+ system and WCDMA's HSPA +systems in same scenes is worth investigating.Given the above background, this paper uses system level simulation to study the data service performance of the HSPA+ system. The system-level and link-level simulation platforms and the interface between them have been designed. We investigated the RAKE receiver and MMSE detector in W-HSPA+ system. And we also studied the joint detection and up link inter cell joint detection in TD-HSPA+ system together with their detection algorithms. The data service performance of W-HSPA+ and TD-HSPA+ have been simulated in different circumstances, such as with different detection algorithms in downlink, under both single stream and single-double stream adaptive mode and with the modulation of 64QAM. Our comparison is based on the evaluation of the spectrum efficiency in the same scene.In this paper, we investigated the data service performance of HSPA+ system. We believe that the simulation results would provide telecom operators and equipment manufacturers with suggestions in the network deployment and bring some practical guidance on TD-HSPA+ technology application in China.
