As a result of rapid development of Internet and access technologies, the schema of "single host-single interface-single network" can no longer to meet the requirements of various types of traffic. Therefore, many hosts are equipped with several access interfaces of different network technologies, and thus can access to a variety of network services simultaneously. In order to provide adequate resource for each session and improve user experience, the host should select an optimal interface when it communicates with others. However, because of the defect of the IP stack, especially the route problem, the host always selects the same interface for all of the sessions which causes the unbalanced distribution of the traffic and wastes of resources. In this paper, firstly, we introduce the basic concepts and problems of the multi-interface host, and discribe the several typical practices to solve the problem. Secondly, bases on the description of DHCPv6 conception and work process, we analyze the feasibility of the host communicating with multiple interfaces simultaneously and independently by extending DHCPv6. Thirdly, a solution for multi-interface host'communication is proposed based on the extended DHCPv6, by which the multi-interface host can get route policy from DHCPv6 server. Finally, we implement our solution based on the linux and the DHCPv6 open source code, and the host can update the route policy received from the DHCPv6 server when the interface state or network state changes. At last, we perform the experiment and get the conclusion that our solution can make the multiple-interface host communicates with multiple interfaces simultaneously and independently, and improve the throughput of the multiple-interface significantly.
