The mobile communication develops rapidly,after decades of fast development,3G technology is brought to the stage of history. In the era of third generation mobile communications network, besides talking, people can access the Internet easily. China Unicom was born in the reform of China Telecom, from following the China Mobile GSM's steps, to the only integrated operator, the first CDMA operator, then in 2009 obtained WCDMA license after integrating with the Netcom,3G built into the operator's primary task in 2009. The scale of the corenet will reach 3540 thousand users,The capacityof wirelesswill reach 55905Erl. Therefore, the discussion of necessary planning, construction and maintenance, optimal of network has great importance with realistic.This paper begins with introduction of WCDMA network structure, then describes the UTRAN of the structure, function, UTRAN interfaces Iub, Iur, Iu in detail, illuminates the composition of the CS domain core network, as well as the network architecture of core network and their interface protocol model and the core network version 3GPP R99, R4, R5 version, focusing on the R4 version of the core network functional entities, network elements, the core network CS domain, introduced the R5 version of the core network structure. Each version has its basis and characteristics for the development. The choice of the core network version should depend on the operational capacity and future evolution of trends. WCDMA mobile core network showed the following three trends:layered network architecture, network load presents IP-based, PS domain evolution in the network equipment maintain the stability of morphology and device functionality, continuity, providing a smooth evolution of the basic equipment. The signaling network of WCDMA R4 version core network is divided into two parts, which can use TDM and IP load bearing. Next, combined with the requirements of the development of Taiyuan Unicom WCDMA network, the paper introduces the WCDMA network planning and design, explains the characteristics of the core network CS domain planning, principles and goals, design process, and. Then it describes the Taiyuan WCDMA overall structure of network design:network element allocation, tele-route network organization, signaling network organization, and core network disaster backup redundancy program. On the base of theoretical guidanced and the planning and design of the core network, focuses the design of core network. In the process of the core network engineering practice, the paper searched the building program of the main network elements, discussed the new challenges, new trends, new features of the WCDMA network optimization, and probed deeply in the common network optimization of network problems in the early completion.Through the WCDMA core network planning, the project practiceand the network optimize, I had the further understanding to the WCDMA theory knowledge, in the Taiyuan WCDMA core network construction and the optimization,played the positive instruction role, simultaneously, accumulated the experience of construction and optimized in the project practice.
