Now wide using about the third generation mobile communication system (3G), the development of fourth generation (4G) mobile communication system and the developing trend of the joint about three networks make a higher requirements to reliability, availability and cost of the communication system, and the limited radio spectrum resources promote a variety of methods to improve the birth of spectrum utilization.Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology as one effective method, which uses multiple antennas in the sending end and receiving end, splits and transmits the network datas, not only greatly improves the spectrum efficiency and system capacity, but also extends the signal receiver distance. As a key technology in MIMO systems, space-time coding combines the channel coding technology and array processing technology to make the antenna transmitting the signal in different time and space, with relevance to dramatically improve the information capacity and transfer rates of wireless communication system. Space-time block coding (STBC) has become one of the key technology in the next generation of mobile communication systems because of its simple structure, small decoding complexity, the most in-depth and extensive research,This paper introduces the principle of MIMO systems, how to count system capacity and the space-time coding principles at first, and then introduces the design criteria for STBC encoding and decoding principle and algorithm in detail. On this basis, the paper presents the design and implementation of STBC systems base the H3 coding scheme on FPGA, including 3 transmitting antennas, 1and3 receiving antennas. At the end, the performance of systems which have been implicated is tested combined with Matlab software, including false rate and the demand for hardware resources two aspects. Simulation and test results verify the feasibility of the proposed systems. In addition, the analysis about hardware resources of system shows that the higher spectrum efficiency coding scheme, the more hardware resources are needed.The theory of space-time block codes has been very in-depth at home and abroad. Papers on how to implement the STBC systems use the hardware have appeared in recent years, but there are very few and only for the Alamouti coding scheme with rate of 1. So the scheme proposed for the encoding rate of less than 1 STBC hardware program should have some reference value in the practice of. STBC.
