Wireless sensor network (WSN) technology is an emerging technology, and it has very broad application prospects. WSN is a revolution in information perception and information acquisition, it will give a profound impact on people's life and production. WSN is usually made up of many different types of sensor nodes. These nodes can be widely distributed in various parts of the region under inspection, with a certain degree of signal processing and data networking capabilities. The bottleneck in WSN is sensor nodes energy limit, which directly determines the life of the network. Now the low power research about sensor networks at home and abroad mainly focuses on routing protocols, MAC (Medium Access Control) protocols, transport protocols, and even some people do this research in the operating system. This article is aimed at studying the energy consumption under different modulation techniques. In sensor nodes, energy is mainly consumed in the RF communication module, and the energy of the RF front-end modules is mostly consumed in the sending and receiving period. So it is very important to choose a low-power modulation and demodulation technology for the development and application of WSN. Time Shift Non-orthogonal Multi-carrier Technology (TS-NMT) is a new modulation technique, and it has the advantage of low energy consumption when sending units of bits of data compared with other conventional modulation techniques. That applying TS-NMT to sensor nodes will be able to greatly reduce energy consumption, which will promote WSN's application on a large scale. Now OQPSK (Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) is commonly used in WSN, so the comparison on energy consumption between TS-NMT and OQPSK is the emphasis of discussion with simulation software. Finally, this thesis gives the experiment results, proves the feasibility of using TS-NMT in WSN, and it also proves that TS-NMT has the advantage of low energy consumption while sending bits of data units compared with OQPSK.
