ABSTRACT:With the rapid development of network technology and wireless communication device, people want to get information from the Internet anywhere anytime, so the technology of Mobile IP comes out. But considering the surge of the number of Internet users and new application requirements, IPv4 protocol will not be able to meet the application and development of future network, so IPv6 protocol is needed. Because the main functions of Mobile IPv6 are accomplished all by the home agent, the reliability mechanism of home agent will be concerned as one of the key technologies in the mobile Internet research.This thesis, depending on the project of "CNGI-Mobile Communication Network IPv6 Access Gateway", focuses on the implementation of the basic Home Agent Reliability Protocol of Mobile IPv6.The support of Home Agent Reliability Protocols for Network Mobility (NEMO), Multiple Care-of Addresses Registration (MCoA) and Mobile IPv6 Support for Dual Stack (DSMIP) are also accomplished.Firstly, this thesis describes Mobile IPv6 protocol and its extended protocol, including the basic operation of Mobile IPv6 Protocol, the brief process of NEMO basic support protocol model, the process of MCoA, DSMIP scenarios and the binding management process of foreign network support for IPv4 only.Secondly, this thesis focuses on the solution of home agent reliability, which elaborates two operational schemes of Home Agent Switch—Virtual Home Agent Reliability Protocol (VHARP) and Home Agent Reliability Protocol (HARP), describing state machine of home agent reliability and new message types, and analyzing its shortcomings.Thirdly, this thesis implements the Home Agent Reliability Protocol, completing the division of functional modules, and realizing the process and expansion of the message modules, which accomplishing the support for NEMO, MCoA and DSMIP.Finally, this thesis implements the Home Agent Reliability Protocol of Mobile IPv6 on the Linux platform. In the WLAN-based test-bed, function and performance of VHARP and HARP are tested, including the protocol process, signaling message format, the encapsulated data formats and handoff performance comparision. The results verify the implementation of the basic Home Agent Reliability Protocol and the extensional support for NEMO, MCoA and DSMIP, and VHARP is better than HARP in performance.
