Internet has been more and more widely used in every field of our life since it was born in1970's. The conventional form of access Internet, such as the fixed location access, however, seriously limits the further application of Internet in many cases. The information age, where we now live, requires Mobile Internet cutover to achieve the goal of access Internet whenever possible. IP-based Mobile IP protocol is proposed as a solution, which supports Mobile Nodes to realize the required mobility.The congenital weakness of Mobile IPv4 protocol has gradually exposed themselves during the development and application of Mobile IP protocol. Thanks to the congenital bugs of Mobile IPv4 protocol (such as the Triangle Route), Mobile IPv6 is aware of those bugs and improves Mobile IPv4, and further more, many new traits is added to Mobile IPv6 protocol to adapt itself to potential applications. In a word, Mobile IPv6 protocol is becoming an essential part of Mobile IP protocol.Main contributions by the author:(1) Considering the weakness of Mobile IPv4 and comparing Mobile IPv6 with Mobile IPv4, main operating procedure of Mobile IPv6 is introduced. It is evident that Mobile IPv6 humanizes mobile support and merits of IPv6, which makes simple the realization of router optimizing and of address auto-configuration, makes more -efficient the middle router, and makes easier the realization of safety.The Handover in Mobile IPv6 is the core content of this paper, which includes the analysis and introduction of four handover technologies: Mobile IPv4 Low Latency Handover, Mobile IPv6 Fast handover, Mobile IPv6 Smooth handover and Hierarchical MIPv6. The adoption of these technologies greatly reduces the effect of handover delay during communication.(2) After intensive study and research of the basis of all kinds of Mobile IPv6 Handover, a Self-adapting MIPv6 Model based on MAP is proposed. Through application of a special Passing-match algorithm and the Self-adapting Binding Update policy, the model can predict the next address of "Binding Acknowledge". When MN moves frequently at a MAP domain, this model will decrease the number of Binding Update, cut down the interruption of server, and thus speed up handover significantly. Therefore, it is very practically applicable theoretically.(3) A novel scheme, named security associations, is proposed here. It is used to protect Mobile IPv6, and is created before a mobile node moves away from its home networks. Analysis indicates that the novel scheme has the advantages of shorter delay, lighter computation, higher efficiency and more robust security over the old one.(4) The whole process of the realization of Mobile IPv6 is described according to the topological structure. Data from the test sufficiently validate the feasibility and superiority of Mobile IPv6.
