Wireless multimedia sensor network (WMSN) is composed of wireless embedded devices those able to retrieve multimedia contents such as video, audio streams and images from physical environment ubiquitously. It is composed from lots of multimedia sensor nodes, which have simple environmental data sensed function with decorating in monitoring area. It is also a multi-hop, self-organizing network system by using wireless communication modes. It is believed to apply a huge multimedia data collected and processed by sensors, which is widely applied in military, industry, modern agriculture and traffic monitoring, etc. But the related theory and technology still has lots of issues need to be solution, especially in the Multimedia information processing, which has become a bottleneck of the development of wireless sensor network multimedia. So the primary multimedia design goal of wireless sensor networks system is how to energy-saving and efficiently achieve the transmission problem such as images, video, multimedia information compression, reliable transmission, prolonging the network life in changing environment, processing power and bandwidth in node limited circumstances, etc.This article firstly introduces the related knowledge and the research significance of the wireless multimedia sensor networks, which expound the present information about relevant knowledge of processing mechanism and pointing out the shortfall of the processing mechanism in low power consumption and efficiency in the event.To consider the angle of low computational complexity low power consumption of the wireless multimedia sensor network according to the system structure characteristics of the wireless multimedia sensor network. From the two aspects of multiple node cooperative distributed video compression algorithm and distributed source coding method, to introduces the present solve information processing and transmission bring calculation and energy consumption problems hotspot—distributed coding.Then, based on related work, a adaptive and scalable multiple description coding--F-MDC is proposed based on JPEG2000-based "T+2D", which merge with R-D optimum algorithm in JPEG2000, open loop motion compensation in"T+2D"wavelet video coding, multiple description of independence in MDC and data priority in Scalable video coding, the basis of proposed algorithm which was conducted simulated verification and performance analysis. Experimental results show that the adaptive algorithm has a larger performance improvement in robustness, real-time, efficient, energy-saving and other aspects.
