WMSNs is a significant innovation in perception and interaction mode of traditional WSN, the rich multimedia information such as image, audio and video is introduced into the exchange between human and natural space , perception perspective is greatly expanded and . requirement of increasingly complex monitoring environment is also met. Compared to the traditional WSN which can only perceive the base environmental data, WMSNs has a more broad application prospect in future high-tech war, security monitoring, industrial production and other fields.Aiming at the problem that computing, storage capacity and energy consumption of single node in WMSNs is limited, this paper first presents three layer collaborative network structure according to the image processing feature in WMSNs, and improves the distributed camera node wake-up mechanism; secondly, this paper puts forward EFLBC clustering protocol which is suitable for image processing in WMSNs; finally, we improve the centralized JPEG encoding algorithm and propose a multi-node collaboration distributed image compression. The simulation results show that the algorithm can ensure a certain quality of reconstructed image, greatly balance the network load and prolong the network lifetime.WMSNs image acquisition and transmission system is designed and implemented through the combination of Zigbee and TinyOs technology. The system can capture the event object which is in the sensing area in real-time, and upload the image to the local pc through the method that compression during transmission. Through the simulation test, system modules are operating normally. We verify that the distributed image compression algorithm is feasible and effective for WMSNs in image acquisition and transmission, achieve the desired goal.
