Wireless multimedia sensor network technology was a research field of multidisciplinary highly cross, it not only collected the simple environment data which was completed by wireless sensor, but also completed the function of multimedia acquiring and communicating. WMSN is becoming a key technology of the perception layer in internet of things application.The designs for wireless multimedia sensor node were consisted of the sensor node design and the sink node design. The different were selected based on the different function. The main modules consisted of power supply module, wireless communication module, environmental perception module, image acquisition module, the solar battery charging module and a serial to WiFi module. The appropriate software was developed according to the different hardware systems, including the program design of master control chip dormant awakens, wireless communication and image acquisition.After the completion of hardware and software design, a series of tests were implemented, included the relationship test between voltage drop and packet loss rate test, the test between sampling frequency and node energy, the test between communication distance and node height node and the test between communication distance and transmission power. The established system was placed in different distance to take photograph, and the acquired image data was transferred to the sink node. It turned out that the acquired image was clear and complete, and the information transmission process was stable and reliable.The simulation and verification experiment were carried out to further reduce energy consumption and prolong the network life cycle in wireless multimedia sensor network, in which the improved LEACH algorithm was introduced. cluster-heads were elected by residual energy of node, the distance between node and sink node. The optimal number of cluster heads in theory was deduced and clustered by K-mean clustering. The simulating analysis of node numbers alive and residual energy was proceeded in MATLAB. The test was operated in the WMSN platform established. The simulation and verification results both show that the proposed algorithm LEACH-ED had the advantages of high network load and the network lifecycle. The established system was placed in different distance to take photograph, and the acquired image data was transferred to the sink node. It turned out that the acquired image was clear and complete, and the information transmission process was stable and reliable.
