Recently, the sensor technology gained a rapid development with the progress of semiconductor technology. The cost and precision have been greatly improved among all kinds of audio, video, image sensors, which makes it possible for the large-scale multimedia sensor applications. Compared with the traditional wireless sensor networks(WSN), the wireless multimedia sensor networks(WMSN) collects and transmits not only the physical information, such as temperatur e, humidity, target location and so on, but also the multimedia information of images, audio, video and so on. With the sharply increasing contents of the information, new technologies and methods are needed urgently to solve these key problems produced on each level of WMSN. Among which the energy consumption is notable.Energy is needed during the sensor nodes collecting, transmitting and processing information. Besides, in order to optimize the performance and make the best use of the network resources, frequent non-sensing information and complex intelligent algorithms are required to interact between the sensor nodes, which put forward a higher requirement to the efficient of energy. However, the energy source of WMSN is always the battery, and the power can’t be replenished when installed. So the following two questions come around: one is that the information of the d ead nodes cannot be collected, the other is that if taking the node as the sink node, the transmission may be interrupted and the collect ed information can’t be transfered to the convergent node.Aiming at the problems described above, this paper did the following jobs on WMSN.(1) Analyzed the process of the Directed Diffusion(DD). The sensor nodes are marked with ladder levels to make s ure the direction of the routing and avoid circulating path, which accelerated the convergence speed of the network. Combined the ant colony optimization algorithm with DD, the best routing path can be found out and then the energy saved.(2) Power is allocated to the different levels after the ladder diffusing stage. Low power is allocated to the nodes with low level because of the times of data transmission that the nodes with low level is more which with high level. Or the nodes with low level will failure prematurely if different grade nodes have the same power.(3) In order to obtain the experimental simulation results at different parameters quickly and intuitively, a NS-2 front-end software simulation platform is developed based on the Qt4.85. And on the platform, the simulation results can be obtained from different given parameters. The results of different protocols are painted as fig. combined with Qwt5.21, and the relevant analysis is given.
