Because of the broad development prospect, animation industry is recognized as the most promising sunrise industry in creative economy in the 21st century and the "smokeless industry" in the 21st century. As the soul of animations, animation modelings become an important weapon for European countries, America, Japan, South Korea and other powerful animation countries to sell their animations and derivative products. Animation modelings generally include animation role modelings and animation crowd modelings. From Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse who were loved by the audiences to WALL and Kung Fu Panda today, every animated movie can give birth to a star or even more. Successfully designing an animation role modeling can not only enhance the box-office appeal of an animation movie, but also become the backbone to spread the whole industry. In addition, many animation movies always involve a lot of crowd modelings, for example, a large number of soldiers in war scene, a large number of audiences in the arena, a large number of people in cities, etc. Effectively designing and generating role modelings and crowd modelings in animation movies have great impact on promoting the quality of animation products, which has been one of the research focuses in the animation field.3D animation is the developing direction of animation industry today. As the core element of 3D animation, 3D animation modelings have a very important position, whose quality will directly affect the quality of 3D animation movies and post-production effects. How to efficiently design a 3D animation role modeling which can attract the eyes of the public and how to quickly and efficiently generate tens of thousands of 3D animation crowd modelings in 3D animation movies have always been an important research issue in 3D animation design field. The traditional design method of 3D animation modelings, by which can obtain attractive and precise 3D animation modelings, is to use three-dimensional modeling softwares such as Maya, 3D Max, and so on to draw directly. But, for designing a 3D animation role modeling, designers always tend to be impacted by existing modelings and design concepts, which makes designers difficult to obtain creative and attractive works; for designing tens of thousands of 3D animation crowd modelings, because of the huge number of modelings and the huge design work, it is of high cost and low speed, and hard to automatically generate a lot of modelings using traditional design method. Therefore, it is urgent to find suitable methods to solve these problems.By studying and using evolutionary computing technology, cooperative technology and visualization technology, this paper launches the research to obtain methods for supporting cooperative and creative design of 3D animation modelings and to improve the novel degree and generation efficiency of animation modelings. The main work and innovation of this paper are summarized as follows:1. In order to apply objective and multi-objective genetic algorithms to cooperative and creative design of 3D animation modelings, this paper firstly improves both adaptive genetic algorithm (AGA) and fast and elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA2). The problems of slow convergence and stagnation in the early evolutionary of AGA algorithm are effectively resolved, and the improved AGA and NSGA2 algorithms can be well applied to innovative design.2. To be able to simultaneously use the knowledge of design experts to design 3D animation modelings, a cooperative design environment that supports 3D animation creative design is built using HOOPS/NET technology, and on this basis, cooperative evaluating method by experts based on HSF (HOOPS Stream File) is proposed, which can effectively improve design efficiency.3. Based on the proposed improved genetic algorithms and cooperative evaluating method by experts above, two methods which can support cooperative and creative design of 3D animation modelings are proposed, which can effectively resolve the problem of difficulties in designing creative 3D animation role modelings and tens of thousands of 3D animation crowd modelings using traditional design method.4. Based on results of the above research, a prototype system, which supports cooperative and creative design of 3D animation modelings, is designed and developed. Experimental results in the prototype system show that the proposed methods can not only efficiently design creative 3D animation role modelings, but also quickly and efficiently generate a large number of 3D animation crowd modelings.
