With the rapid development of the crowd animation simulation technology, it hasbeen widely used in various fields, such as security disaster relief training system,computer game and animation, digital city show. However, people constantly presentedcrowd animation simulation of the new requirements: a larger population size, the morerealistic rendering and also need to meet the user real-time interaction. Realization ofthese requirements need the support of the powerful computing capability of thecomputer. however the current level of hardware is not able to fully qualified for thesetasks, people pay more attention to the research of large crowds animation modeling andrendering algorithms, making large-scale crowds animation become an important areaof research and challenging issues.This article is to address the problem, put forward a large-scale crowd animationmodeling and rendering technology based on fluid dynamics.The main work and characteristic of this paper are summarized as follows:1. Based on the globally control, a large-scale crowd animation modeling methodis proposed. Based on the foundation of fluid dynamics, this article unifies globalnavigation, congestion avoidance, environment interactions into the Navier Stokesequation.2. The multi-level grid architecture method is proposed. it will be used for thediscretization and numerical calculation of the dynamic density field and dynamicvelocity field. Also it will be used for simplify the calculating number of crowd in thescene.3. Based on smoothed particle hydrodynamics, a design approach of collisionavoidance and detection is proposed. Smoothed particle hydrodynamics will be used tosimulate a possible collision to detection and avoid in the crowd without using thebounding box. It will improve the efficiency of system simulation.4. The real-time rendering computer graphics technology, such as level of details,billboard, batching render technology is researched. These techniques apply forrendering the crowd animation to improve the efficiency of real-time rendering. 5. Based on the study of social psychology in crowd behavior, a crowd animationmodeling based on the mixed theories about Social Comparison Theory and ContagionTheory is proposed. It will be used to simulate crowd motion changing by socialpsychology pressure to increase the diversity and logic authenticity of the crowdbehavior.
