Virtual gear measuring center (VGMC) is the substitute of the real gear measuring center (GMC) in the virtual environment, comprising the structure, motion and error factors of the real GMC. The visualization system of VGMC is an important component of the virtual system, the basis and prerequisite for realizing the operation and function of VGMC, and the significant means of improving the usability of VGMC system as well.The focus of the research includes the scene visualization modeling and motion visualization modeling for VGMC, and the development of the human-computer console, based on VC++ and OpenGL. Firstly, the function of the virtual visualization system is summarized from the operation mechanism of VGMC. Secondly, the access to complex geometry has been studied further, especially, the reading and storing modules for 3DS format model file are implemented based on OpenGL. Thirdly, the geometry and motion characteristics of GMC are analyzed and extracted by the method of hierarchical structure analysis, through which the scene visualization modeling and motion visualization modeling of the virtual system are completed. The scene visualization modeling is to develop the virtual model for the instrument and environment. The motion visualization modeling is to achieve four-axis linkage, mainly including probe movement (along with x-axis, y-axis or z-axis) and the work piece motion (rotating motion). There are different movement modules such as single direction movement, multi-direction movement, single-step motion, continuous motion, etc. And there are three motion control interfaces, including keyboard, mouse and parameters-input. At last, the human-computer console in visualization system is developed, in which the observation point can be shifted unrestrained, real-time display of coordinate value is achieved. The usability and reliability for human-computer interface of the virtual visualization system are increased through designing the interface of software system.
