The diversification and individuation of Internet service make how to meet the bandwidth demand of users under the limited network bandwidth becomes a significant problem. This paper studies the application feature and the requirement for all kinds of services of Service Selection Gateway (SSG). By analyzing the traditional bandwidth control methods, the paper presents a new method which can identify application layer protocols and allocate bandwidth based on the different identified protocols. This method is able to identify application layer protocols by means of inspecting packets deeply and matching the rule base.In addition, the investigation of queuing theory and its application in communication leads to the mathematical model of queuing in SSG, based on which a new algorithm grounded on priority is designed in order to meet the demand of bandwidth consuming services. Finally, simulation is done in the environment of Matlab and comparison is made to prove that the proposed algorithm is able to meet the bandwidth demand of users, thus, the quality of service can be guaranteed in SSG. The module of bandwidth allocation of this paper has practicability in SSG.
