Due to the rapid development of network technologies, the network bandwidth and the rate of network transmission has been enhanced greatly. However, the data that need to be transmitted has also incremented with the same rate, even exceed the incrementing rate of network bandwidth. This fact indicates that the network bandwidth is still a key issue for network transmission.The current Internet only provides the service called best-effort, in which, all traffics are treated indistinguishably and compete for the network resources equally. This service model is insufficient for those applications that have special requirements for bandwidth, delay and delay jitter, and these requirements result in the emergence of concept of quality of service and technology of bandwidth management.IP QoS and bandwidth management are two interrelated research subjects, and they are also current research hotspots. This paper makes research for the design and implementation of the bandwidth management module based on ZyNOS at the angle of QoS.First, we discuss some basic concepts of IP QoS, IP QoS'service models and their latest research situations, and point out the significance and necessarity of IP QoS'emergence. Meanwhile, we also mention some concepts of the solution of IP QoS—bandwidth management.Then we make researches about network protocol processing and scheduling mechanism and propose the network protocol processing and scheduling mechanism based on bandwidth, meanwhile, we also make deep researches about CBQ scheduling technology, mainly including its basic structure, scheduling arithmetic researches and some important parameters'meaning.Last, we introduce bandwidth management's detailed implementation in ZyNOS system, mainly including the structure of bandwidth management's modules in ZyNOS, also,their related data structure definitions, functional implementations and user configuration interfaces'implementations.
