Existing signal source for telemetry equipments usually is bought from market. The device has the characters such as high cost, big volume, and can not produce the required frame format modulated signal for telemetry equipment, With the increases of mission density, existing signal source can not meet the actual requirement.The paper puts forword the general design of siginal source, which includes the hardware and software. Based on the core technologies of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) and DDS (Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer), we design hardware of the signal source, including the control module, the signal generator modules, buttons and display module, interface module, power supply and crystal module. The FPGA control software is programmed with VHDL, which can control the FPGA and DDS chips and has the function to configure parameters and generates the variable noise ratio modulation signal. The serial port parameters configuring software is programmed with VC6.0, including parameter configuring module, dynamic signal simulation module, save module, display module, timing module. Based on the RS232 protocol, the data communication module accomplishes communication between FPGA and the computer. The source of noise is solved by using high speed direct sequence code to simulate the gauss white noise. The paper also puts forward the diction methods. According to the methods, we have tested and verified the parameters of siginal source, which proves that the signal source can meet the general requirements.Now the siginal source has been used in the tests for telemetry equipments, including sensitivity, telemetry code synchronization, sub-set of synthesizers and other parameters.
