USB is a peripheral device connected with the computer interface bus, and the role is simplifying the process of connecting peripheral, easy the computer interface expansion. The new type of USB interface includes all the advantages of previous type and increases the excellent power management features. The USB power management chip discussed in this paper is based on USB 3.0 protocol and is compatible with USB 2.0 protocol. This paper begins with the electrical indicator, through system design, circuit design and simulation, finally, the chip called XD1062 has been completed, which has the advantages of high- efficiency, wide supply range and stable output voltage.Firstly, the development background, present development situation and prospects of USB system are introduced, and the USB power management system and its protection circuit are summarized. Secondly, the key technologies of USB power management chip are expounded and all the flows of XD1062 chip are studied including system planning, index definition, sub-module circuit design, overall circuit function simulation and verification. Meanwhile, the design methods of OTP, OSC,UVLO ,IBIAS and Charge- Pump are analyzed emphatically. Thirdly, the design methods and skills of full customization analog layout are introduced and the chip XD1062 layout is given.Based on 0.35μm BCD process, the schematic design, layout design, simulations and verifications of XD1062 have been completed using the EDA tools of Cadence. The simulation results turn out to be that all the functions have been implemented and electrical characteristics are consistent with the design specification. The area of XD1062 is 0.56×0.92mm2. Now the chip is being taped out.
