LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon, LCoS) micro-display technology made the drive circuit in monocrystalline silicon substrate, filling liquid crystal between the top ITO glass and substrate, which combines both liquid crystal display and CMOS integrated circuits Common advantage. It is a very promising new type of flat panel display technology.In this paper, the external video driver system of Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) micro-display chip and LCoS chip micro-display panel will be for a more depth research and development, the main results are as follows:1) The video drive system of LCoS micro-display have been designed and build. According to the design requirements, the system have a control core based on FPGA, which contains SIGNAL_GE,WRITE,READ,DATA_IN,ADDR_IN,SWITCH and DDR_CONTROL seven modules. It is used for the environment of a timing color LCoS micro-display chip which resolution is SVGA (800×600).2)Because of the high rate in the data transmission, we chose DDR2 SDRAM as the memory. A DDR SDRAM controller base on FPGA have been designed, which provide a method of the connection between LCoS chip and the DDR SDRAM. This paper show the detail of the structure and the design method, in addition given several optimization methods in some key parts of the structural.3) Developed the initial production process of micro-display panel of LCoS chip. Liquid crystal box with the size of 15438μm×11462μm have been made in the experimental. We also show the detail of several key steps such as spearding PI,orientation of PI,mixing the sealant,bonding of ITO glass and substrate,filling the liquid crystal, etc.
