Ad Hoc network is a multi-hop temporary autonomous system composed by a group of mobile terminal nodes with a wireless transceiver. Each mobile terminals acts as a communication terminal and as a router, and can move freely. So they can constitute arbitrary network topology through wireless connection. Data packet is transmitted by way of Multi-hop, while the network works without fixed infrastructure. In the Ad Hoc network, because of the dynamic network topology changes caused by mobile terminals, routing for wireless Ad Hoc network becomes critical and difficult for research and application. The effective routing protocol can overcome the unfavorable factors by using underlying information and provide upper layer with a stable, reliable and efficient communication support. It is urge to to design a new routing protocol for Ad Hoc Networks. In this paper, we study Ad Hoc network routing protocol based the standard protocol in the IEEE 802.11 MAC, the MAC layer label Switch routing protocol (referred to as MLLS) is proposed in this paper. it is cross-layer designed and implemented afterward. We made a number of innovative research results. This paper's work includes:Ad Hoc network routing algorithm is an important part of Ad Hoc network, is the primary problem of data communication. This paper presents a new MAC layer based label switching routing protocol. The proposed protocol utilizes the MAC frame to carry a complete route segment, so that the process of intermediate forwarding of data transmission is mainly in the MAC layer, without the involvement of the network layer. In this way, the process of forwarding reduces the route table searching time in the network layer and the processing time of package decapsulation and encapsulation, consequently reduces, So does the transmission delay. Also, it reduces the resource requirements of network interface card and host during the intermediate forwarding of data transmission. We manage to use OPNET as our simulation platform. Simulation results show that compared with AODV and DSR protocol, the proposed routing protocol has great improvement in the performance, such as End-to-End delay, comtrol comsuption and packet deliver rate. This paper presents the implementation of the proposed routing protocol. The implementation uses Linux as software platform and uses ARM development board with Samsung S3C2440 chip and USB wireless network interface card as hardware platform. The implementation achieves the basic functions of the proposed routing protocol, and the routing protocol in this paper is implemented in the driver layer of Linux operating system. We set up consisting of a 12-node demonstration platform, and each node can run a higher real-time audio and video communication.
