With the increasingly rapid development of Internet technology, now hundreds of millions of users for Internet requirements also gradually raise.With the number of users using the Internet increasing,it will inevitably lead that since the 1970s we were all the extensive use of IPv4 protocol which has exposed more and more imperfections, IPv4 protocol has slowly become less able to fully meet the current users of the increasing use of Internet demand. Therefore, IEIF (Internet Engineer Task Force) proposed a new next-generation Internet Protocol, namely IPv6 Protocol.Compared with the IPv4 protocol,the biggest advantage of IPv6 protocol is 128-bit address, so we can solve the shortage of IP addresses by using 128-bit address. In addition, IPv6 protocol also has some others' advantages,such as data packet header with a simplified and flexible expandability, mobile communication support,the quality of service, plug and play networking approach and network layer authentication and encryption.These advantages will greatly satisfy the users on the network using the new requirements, and also determines IPv6 protocol will replace IPv4 protocol.The reality is that IPv4 protocol and IPv6 protocol will coexist in a long time.The core issue is how to make IPv4 hosts and IPv6 hosts can really visit each other and the two different protocols can have the better compatibility in this period.This article first introduces some new characteristics of IPv6 protocol.Secondly,the article introduces the dual-stack technology, tunneling technology and translation gateway technology.Finally, the article introduces the details of the NAT-PT work processes and the address translation gateway manages the address translation table by using the Hash algorithm. Through translation gateway lookup Hash table delay and the conflict rate, the article proofs improved NAT-PT technologies can very good finish IP address translation work and guarantee IPv4 hosts and IPv6 hosts visite efficiency.
