Chinese calligraphy is one of the most important parts of the Chinese traditional culture, which combines the elegant shape of the Chinese characters with the profound Chinese culture. Nowadays, computer and network technology has extended to all corners of the world. In this thesis, we focus on the generation of the Chinese calligraphy and two issues are involved:Chinese calligraphy creation in 3D virtual environment and Chinese calligraphy specific style rendering.1) Chinese calligraphy creation in 3D virtual environment. Propose a novel virtual hairy brush model based on triangular mesh. The stroke trajectories are defined with curve fitting. Figure out the states of the key frames, and then get the transition frames using interpolation technology. Finally, real time render the process of writing calligraphic characters. The virtual hairy brush is efficient and vivid, which can demonstrate various kinds of postures of a real hairy brush and the writing rhythm. Users can create the calligraphic artworks as they want with the system.2) Chinese calligraphy specific style rendering. Build a system to render the user's handwriting characters with a specific style of an artwork. Firstly, extract some typical strokes from the artwork and establish a stroke database. Then decompose the handwriting character into a sequence of strokes and recognize the types of the strokes. Pick out radicals in the stroke sequence and fetch proper original strokes from the stroke database for rendering, using the radical filter and the stroke filter. Finally, deform the original strokes and show rendering result to the user. Here, the Rule-based Stroke Deformation Algorithm is proposed to deform the original strokes according to the handwriting strokes, and The Special Nine Grid is presented to help recognize radicals. The rendering result manifests the specific style with high quality. It is feasible for the user to generate tablets and other artworks with the system.
