With the development of geography, the vector data, which is used to demonstrate geographical information, has presented characteristics of multitudinous types, complex operation and numerous data. This characteristic has taken great difficulties to software developing, data-shared, mutual operation in geography information system software. How to organize these data in effect and how to manage data are the emphases of research on the GIS software. Different resources of vector data and different types of data makes a urgent problem that how to restore multi types data in the database which can be visited standard and then achieve data-shared and mutual operation. Through separating data service layer from user client, shielding complexity and different medium of the background database, vector spatial database engine solves this problem.This paper follows characteristics, obeyed-rules of spatial database engine; an analysis mainly research content, and then makes design in detail. The main works are as follow:1) Introduces concept of spatial database engine, discusses mainly research content, then researches and compares two mainstream spatial database engines.2) Analyses spatial data model's status in quo and its future, introduces and compares some typical data models; designs a universal vector spatial data model;then designs a spatial database framework aiming at characteristic of vector data model.3) Does some research on the flow of different type data accessing database, solves the key technique difficulties; creates a universal interface which is easy to interact between data and database; compares some spatial indexes and builds own spatial index system; discusses concept of spatial query and designs simple spatial query function to carry out.4) Verifies the method designed by this article through program designations and experiments.
