ABSTRACT:With the sustained rapid development of Internet, people began rethinking the service quality, reliability and efficiency of Internet. Traditional IP routing system, such as interior gateway protocols, can only provide data reachable services. These algorithms may convergence data stream to the same link in the network, which led to local network congestion and decline of network resource utilization. Traffic engineering can be effectively used to solve the above problems, control network resources reasonably and improve network performance. Traffic engineering based on the traditional router technology is achieved by adjusting the metric on routers. This approach can meet the requirements that the number of core routers in the network is not so much. However, with the rapid expansion of network size, a certain changes will affect the links in the other parts of network, so this method is increasingly more difficult to cope with the network transmission requirements with huge data flow. The emergence of Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) provide a good solution to these problems, it can balance the distribution of traffic on the network by controlling the traffic reasonably, so that increasing overall network performance. MPLS is currently the best solution to implement traffic engineering in a large high-density network.This paper introduces the overview of the development of MPLS and technology advantages of MPLS standard. Then this paper give a thorough elaboration on the aspect of basic MPLS framework and principle, the signaling protocol related and forwarding process technology. This article went on to make a detailed analysis on traffic engineering implementation in MPLS as well as the composition of the MPLS-TE architecture and key modules. This article focuses on the application of several common constraint-based routing algorithms in traffic engineering, and proposes an improved algorithm which can balance network requests from the perspective of the whole network traffic. Simulation tools-MATLAB was used to do the analysis and comparison of several algorithms. Finally, with OPNET platform, I designed a number of simulation scenarios based on MPLS to simulate some key technologies which were used on the application of MPLS traffic engineering. The simulation analysis verified that the MPLS traffic engineering is an effective means to balance network load, optimize network traffic, reduce congestion and deal with issues such as network failure.
