Three-dimensional visualization on the stereoscopic display is one of the research hotspots in medical image field. it involved a digital image processing, computer graphics, and the medical field of knowledge, able to offer users have the advantage of the 3d medical images for the doctor performed the diagnosis and virtual surgery, auxiliary medical treatment for work, ct image of the three technical a very important to study and application. This paper has made some academic research on 3D reconstruction and its related basic technologies including CT image-forming principle, image preprocessing and 3D reconstruction on medical images. VTK, a kind of visualization tool kit has been used to accomplish image filtering of original CT images and to adjust image's window wide and window level. Then, 3D reconstruction of the head sequence images were formed using Marching Cubes and Ray Casting, classical algorithms of surface rendering in 3-D reconstruction encapsulated in VTK. Further analysis was made on the ambiguity of Marching Cubes and improvement of it has been proposed, which is to use Boundary testing approach to determine the correct pattern of the connection between the equivalent points. The realization of the improvement was achieved with C++ programmer.Comparing the various algorithms mentioned above, the result of experiment proved that there are no holes and discontinuity phenomena in the image of 3D reconstruction with new MC algorithm. Therefore it can offer great assistance in medical teaching and clinical diagnosis for it can contribute to drawing and transporting the medical images much faster without compromising the quality of the images.
