With the maturity of multimedia and the rapid development of Internet, streaming media technology has become one of the most important applications on the Internet. P2P streaming media technology pushes multicast from the network layer to the application layer, so that, it can make the most of various nodes on the Internet to calculate on equal basis. With serious advantages of extensibility, utilization, fault-tolerance and so forth, it sheds light on the development of streaming media technology. After the intensive research on P2P streaming media technology, however, can be find that it has the characteristics of complex structure, large scale, high dynamics, etc. Consequently, the related studies on the real network environment are known as rebelliousness and high deployment cost. Therefore, for the sake of carrying out the research work, must get help from P2P streaming media simulation system with certain simulation ability. In general, currently dominant P2P simulation systems either support specified protocols or provide all-purpose simulation environment. The interfaces they provide aren't satisfactory for the characteristics of P2P streaming media system. For this reason, the paper comes up with a brand-new P2P streaming media simulation framework based on NS2, called StreamSim. The framework has the characteristics of hierarchy, extensibility, scalability and so on. It provides a group of all-purpose basis components and protocol extensible interfaces. Depending on components and interfaces, the page implements two P2P streaming media live broadcast models, that is the tree-based protocol model and the Gossip-based protocol model. It shows that StreamSim is highly extensible.Lastly, the paper makes simulation experiments for the two models. The result illustrates that Gossip-based protocol model is more suitable for streaming media live broadcast scene, and Demonstrates StreamSim is satisfactory to compare different P2P streaming media protocol models.
