Power Line Communication (PLC) is one data/voice transmission method by making use of power line as a communication media. It has distinctive feature such as no wiring, wide coverage and convenient connections. With the rapid development of Internet technology, power line communication business is demanded higher and higher, set off a boom in the domestic research, and is considered one of the most competitive technology. But the power line channel is bad, limiting the rate and quality of communication, how to improve the performance of the PLC, the power line channel estimation is especially important to realize the long-distance communication of high-speed and high-quality. This paper mainly focuses on the channel estimation algorithms researchment for the PLC based on OFDM, and on this basis to achieve the channel estimator design.First, on the basis of analysis the current state of the power line development, describes the parameters of low-voltage power line communication channel characteristics and establishes a power line channel model. Second, studys common channel estimation method based pilots, especially a channel estimation algorithm based on Kalman filter. In this new algorithm, firstly using a scalar Kalman filter to estimate the information of the pilot channel, and then making the frequency direction of the FFT interpolation based on the Kalman estimate to gain the full channel information. Simulation results show that, this algorithm is suitable for power line communication system. This innovative algorithm performance is very close to the Wiener filter based channel estimation algorithm, but in practical applications simpler and more suitable for real-time transmission system channel estimation. At last, the implementation scheme on FPGA of channel estimation was designed based on the simulation, mainly including the correlators and equalizer design, and the details of the role of each module.
