Nowadays, the wireless network technology is developing rapidly, and the market of wireless network products is booming. The wireless location technology discussed in this paper can provide real time location and tracking service. The technology includes GPS, IEEE802.11, Bluetooth, and Dedicated RF etc.Our Small Wi-Fi Location System is based on IEEE802.11 wireless network. It collects the measurements of multiple stationary APs'signal strength sampled by the object being located, and exploits the calibration algorithm to determine the location of the object, then displays the object's coordinates via a graphical engine. This location system comprises three main parts, namely the client, the server and the graphical engine. The client mainly takes charge of collecting AP's signal strength in an area, while the server mainly deals with the storage of the signal strength and the computation of the object's coordinates which will subsequently be given to the graphical engine, where the object being tracked is intuitively displayed on the map. The algorithm of the location engine is based on the radar fingerprint technique enhanced by a specific calibration method.Experiments show that our small Wi-Fi location system can locate an indoor object with an error ranging from 3 to 7 meters, suggesting that the system has promising application potential.
