A Preliminary Research On The Evaluation Of Museum Display And Exhibition

In recent years, evaluation of museum is paid more and more attention in China, and relevant methods, guidelines were issued. The evaluation of museum display and exhibition, as one important element, plays a positive role in museum development to promote the continuous improvement of working methods of the museum displays and exhibitions, and enhance communication between the museum and the public. For there is no formed evaluation program currently, this paper based on the existing practice and research tries to form a reasonable evaluation program of displays and exhibitions.The first part of the contents of the article makes a basic understanding of the evaluation of museum display and exhibition, discussing the meaning, significance, object, content, manner, and the purpose of the evaluation of museum display and exhibition.The second part introduces and analyzes the status of the evaluation of museum display and exhibition, mainly outlining the status in the Europe and North America (in the U.S., UK, for example), the Mainland of China and Taiwan.On the basis of the second part, the third part proposes the problems, solutions and recommendations of the evaluation of museum display and exhibition in China.According to the introduction and analysis mentioned above, the fourth part tries to propose a tentative program of the evaluation of museum display and exhibition——the macro evaluation of overall displays and exhibitions in museum with the microscopic evaluation of a single display or exhibition. One is an important aspect of museum evaluation index system, and the other one aims to plan, change, or improve a display or exhibition.The last part of the article points out the achievement, limitation and shortcoming of this paper. Certain relevant museum evaluation documents are attached in the end, and I wish those will be helpful to the interested readers.
