With the rapid development of network scale and broadband technology widely used, the transmission data in the Internet increase in a very fast flow rate. Large amount of data exchanges on the Internet's core equipment-routers make it must have a high capacity, especially possessing a large capacity, fast exchange and high-speed interface.In order to resolve the sharp increase of transmission data in the Internet, the improvement of router performance become the crucial approach. In the exploring of the router forwarding performance research, most of the researches in the past is based on IP forwarding to optimize the design of soft or the structure on hardware. But now, A new way --Vector forwarding is born and it can greatly improve the performance of the router forwarding.In this thesis, we make a comparison of instruction cycles occupied by the machine in the process of router lookup on IP forwarding and Vector forwarding, which can constraint forwarding performance. And we make simulations of router node in the-situations of IP forwarding and Vector forwarding separately, so we can get the result of the performance in two different means. The theoretical and experimental data above can verify Vector Forwarding is more efficiency, so it benefits the promoting of Vector Network in a strong basis.
