In order to raise the economic efficiency of enterprises and make them stand out from the crowd of the fierce competition in both domestic and foreign markets, enterprises are required to configure reasonable tool resources and acquire varieties of timely and accurate information about cutting tools. Not only are cutting tools important for machinery industry, but they are expensive and consumptive, which play an important role in flexibility and productivity of manufacturing systems. Due to the processing need, the types of cutting tool are getting increasing and are often in circulation. Increased information of cutting tools has made the management of cutting tools more difficult. The purpose of this paper is to optimize the tool resources management process, to realize automatic identification and tracking tools and share obtained information. Based on the analysis and design of the tool management system and network, this paper focuses on bar code automatic identification and tracing technique. Optimizing the management system of cutting tool resources is would reduce the cost and preparation time of processing tools. The predominant purpose and results are concluded as follows:1. Firstly introducing the current research and development of management and tracing technology of cutting tools at home and abroad, secondly having made a conclution of some new characteristics of cutting tools, and then revealing some existent problems in the tool management at present;2. Based on practical application flow of NC tools, analysis and study of whole lifecycle model of cutting have been made for ceating the model of tool information by graphical description method-Express-G;3. In order to optimize management process of tool resources, this paper has made a research on the automatic identification and tracing technology of tools and reliability test of Data Matrix two-dimensional bar code, laiding a foundation for practical application of bar code in tool management; 4. For the key technologies of optimizing management process of tool resources, detailed researches are involved in this paper, including generation of Data Matrix bar code, the automatic identification and tracing and querying technology of tool web-based;5. Based on analysis of the need and resonable management of cutting tools from enterprises, the object-oriented UML appliance (Rational Rose) has been utilized to design the web-based tool management system, which is verified in actual practice by application of the JSP and MYSQL database.
