Color calibration, the core of color management, takes the main responsibility in compensating imaging devices for the color difference owing to the inner nonlinearity. Because calibration effect is directly linked to the preciseness of color reproduction, and the six-ink printer has been used more and more widely, the research on its color calibration is of huge practical value.A color calibration algorithm based on the dimension reduction method is proposed in order to resolve the problems of directly applying the four-color calibration technology to the six-color printer. Firstly the traditional color calibration technology for four-ink printer is studied, and the key issues of six-color calibration are analyzed. Then by devising the calibration sample set, the characteristics of a six-ink printer is detected and the six-color calibration model based on the dimension reduction method is designed and implemented. Finally, by the research of ICC management system and ICC profile formation, the ICC profile for a six-ink printer is produced with the novel color calibration algorithm, and the test has shown that the proposed six-color calibration algorithm is of accuracy and availability.
