With the rapid development of the computer technology and the Internet technology, the remote safety monitoring system has been increasingly used in the industrial field. For most of the industries, especially the petroleum industry where inflammable, explosive, noxious and hazardous gases are involved, the remote safety monitoring utilizing the Internet technology during the various stages of production has significant meaning.In this paper, the traditional remote safety monitoring system based on Internet was firstly analyzed. Facing the problems that user experience was not friendly and the real time performance was poor, a new system structure was proposed. This system structure was constituted by the client, the data management layer and the data collection layer. The client was realized through the Flex Rich Client technology, by this way, the system was provided with more plentiful, interactive and responsive user experience. The data management layer was composed of Web server, application server and database server. In the application server, the Web Service technology, shared memory technology and the stream Socket technology enabled the field real data to be obtained directly by the client without through the database and frequent disk read/write. Therefore, the system real time performance was improved. In the data collection layer, the GPRS technology was utilized to deliver the collected data to the data management layer. Finally, the system functions were tested, and the test results verified that the thoughts of this system were proper and feasible.
