On the basis of analyzing the radar cross section (RCS) of microstrip antenna, kinds of ways for microstrip antenna RCS reduction are discussed. While antenna RCS is reduced, its radiation performance should be maintained by all means, especially the gain. A low RCS microstrip antenna is designed by Compact structure, cutting slots and changing the shape of coupled aperture. Main contributions are summarized as follows. The principle of reducing RCS of microstrip antenna by cutting slots is analyzed. The method is simulated, and some rules are summarized. It is verified by the simulation results that both cutting slots on microstrip antenna patch and ground plane are feasible methods for reducing RCS. Finally, a low RCS microstrip antenna and aperture coupled microstrip antenna are designed by cutting slots and changing the shape of coupled aperture. RCS reduction is studied. It is also verified by the result the compact antenna used to reduce antenna RCS can guarantee the radiation performance to solve the contravention of the radiation and scattering of antenna.
