With the rapid development of some disciplines such as Computer Networks, Computer Graphics and Image Processing, Virtual Space Teleconferencing and its related research projects, in recent years, have become one of the most active research topics. Based upon the theoretical results in the related fields and combined with project experience, this paper describes the solution, proposed and implemented by the author, to Image and Video technology of Virtual Space Teleconferencing.Including the development status and applications of Image and Video technology of Virtual Space Teleconferencing, this paper discusses the overall design and three key technologies of the image and video system of Virtual Space Teleconferencing which is build on the technology. In respect of data capture and compression, using the general USB camera and VFW's API ,the system implements the capture and competes the compression by the use of Divx codec; In respect of networks transmission, using the Winsock 2's API, the author implemented a many-to-many solution on internet which is based on the TCP/IP protocol and IP multicasting technology; In respect of image and video display, for the real-time video stream and by the use of the APIs of Vega and OpenGL, the remote real-time image and video display in virtual space is implemented in the system.At last, this paper also introduces the development prospects of Image and Video technology of Virtual Space Teleconferencing.
