The 3rd Generation Telecommunication (3G) represents the developing direction of the mobile communication technology. It meets the mobile users'new needs and its appearance is the inexorable trend of the mobile business development. In addition to the traditional voice business, data business is the most important one in 3G business, which includs multimedia stream, universal internet access, messaging services, location-based services and other specific services based on business and individual. As there are many emergencies in data services, some new demands are presented to the data transmission networks. These demands include not only the high bandwidth, but high bandwidth utilization and powerful multi-service processing capabilities. As present basic data transmission networks can only meet the demand of second generation mobile communications development, establishing the optical transmission networks which have broad spectral band, various functions and high reliability will be more important for mobile communication technology's developing to the second generation mobile communications. There are so many shortcomings in traditional optical transmission networks such as the complexity of configuration, low bandwidth utilization, high cost and bad expansibility, so it can not meet the demands of 3G business. Through an in-depth analysis about transport network technology of SDH, MSTP, and ASON, the author presents the design projects for 3G transport network. The emphasis of this article run as follows:First, the author introduces and makes an in-depth analysis of the mainstay technology and application for transmission network. From the characteristics of 3G business we can reach a conclusion that the fundamental principles of 3G transport network's construction are as follows:Multi-Service Transport Platform (MSTP) is the cornerstone of 3G transport network and ASON is the necessary development condition of it. The effective combination of MSTP and ASON represents the development direction of 3G, which can meet all kinds of demands in the future.Second, the transport network is developing to the direction of mass storage, multi-service carrier, network intelligence and open interface. According to 3G business's demand, we can realize various functions by using different technical facilities in the bone layer, converge layer and access layer. On the access layer, bearer service bases on transparent transmission, which needs greater security, flexible configuration and scheduling. On the core layer, ring network gradually goes towards mesh net.Third, the author introduces present situation of the transmission network in JN Telecom and JN Unicom, analyzes the existing problems of them, and proposes the resource sharing and advantages complementing methods. By using the two networks resources, playing their advantages and avoiding demerits, we can construct JN Telecom's network with shorter time and less cost.Last, a concrete analysis is carried out on bone layer, converge layer and access layer of JN Telecom's network. Construction plan is proposed according to the demand of 3G., which not only meets the construction demands of 3G network, but larghly enhances the present netwoker's transmission ability and reliability. Besides, it provides the devloping conditions to the next transmission generation.With the growing maturity of the transmission facilities standards and backstage softwares, ASON+WDM+MSTP must be widely applied to transmission netwoks construction in the future.
