A variety of SOA-based business applications and services platforms are emerging with the development of service computing, so service integration and service composition become a new research direction and central issue of application. How to achieve an accurate and fair benefit-sharing among service providers is the key issue in the sustainable development of these operation modes. All of these make a high demand on the efficiency, flexibility and scalability of services charging solution. Meanwhile, charging for composite service is more complex than charging for traditional services because of the situations introduced by sub-services provided by different providers, service exceptions, sub-service updating and so on. Thus, a loose-coupled charging architecture and a pluggable charging component are needed, rather than take payment solution as a core component.Considering the scenario of composite services, a three-layered charging model, consisting of Service-Charging Interactive Layer(SCIL), Charging Service Caller Layer(CSCL) and Charging Service Implementation Layer(CSIL) was proposed. SCIL is responsible for the interaction with the composite services, collecting status and information from services and pushing them to CSCL. In CSCL, we proposed Chain Composite Service and Network Composite Service models based on abstract charging action of composite service, and implemented a status and charging cycle manager corresponding to these two models. A Rule engine is used in CSIL, which implemented the charging details, to improve the versatility of the charging component. Also corresponding strategies and recovery solution is proposed, addressing security and error recovery issues in service charging. First, a lock and time stamp based error recovery solution is adopted based on rule engine in CSIL. Meanwhile, inspired by the non-blocking concurrency managing in transaction memory, charging transaction is introduced to deal with the concurrency issues, assuring both performance and flexibility by granularity controlling.Finally, the charging component was deployed in the commercial operation system, and it showed that the charging system meets the requirements of composited service, acting as a good measure of profits dispensed among service providers. its future work will be focused on atomization and discretization of charging service, adaptive charging service selection and combination among a variety of atomic charging services.
