In the information communication field, wireless communications technology grows fast, and then the communications technology also develops fleetly which has penetrated into all aspects of person's life and work. Wireless communication system uses the invisible air waves as a transmission medium, and it receive/transmit electromagnetic signals by the antenna. Antenna in wireless communication systems is an important component,its characteristics on the performance of the system should not be underestimated.The excellence of the microstrip antenna has small size, light weight, low profile, conformal to be loaded in the carrier vehicle without damaging the mechanical structure etc., so it has a very wide range of applications in both military and civilian, but the microstrip antennas also has narrow bandwidth,low gain and such defects, how to overcome the narrow bandwidth of microstrip antenna, fed emission depletion, reliability and low defects has become a urgent problem. This thesis targets the development of broadband microstrip antenna beginning with the design of the microstrip antenna.The author got both good performance design of broadband microstrip antennas, and then test performance of the completed antenna finally.This paper focuses on the microstrip antenna theory, design and implementation, and we also learn the two kinds of electromagnetic simulation software-CST and HFSS, and combine these two advantages and disadvantages of simulation software to improve the previous model. With the difference from the conventional microstrip antenna feed means, discrete port is designed to feed the two new models of WLAN antennas. These two models are different graphics, and substrate material and thickness are not the same, although the expansion of microstrip antenna has effectively bandwidth to meet the most basic design requirements and goals, they each have their own advantages and disadvantages. After successful completion of the simulation, based on the most common practice selected the least expensive materials, FR4, we made the antenna in this type, by using network analyzer, ETS conducted the physical measurements and continue to improve the physical well, which meets the design requirements, and largely verify the accuracy of the simulation, and also effective to overcome the narrow bandwidth of microstrip antenna defects.
