With the development of Internet, the state high-speed 3G mobile communications technology for commercial launch and maturity,multimedia communication technology got a huge development. People have great consumer demand on the video, audio and other multimedia technologies. such as video on demand, video conferencing, distance education. In these areas, the RTSP protocol streaming technology has been widely used.As technology continues to develop, information going deepin, people's requires for interactive audio and video programs is more and more powerful. Multimedia information, particularly audio and video information on-demand services are increasingly aroused great interest. VOD technology makes it possible that people can according to their interests to chose video programs.Video, audio and other media data is through the network to provide users multimedia information. It covers all aspects of network multimedia technology. Media data compression and storage technology is now mature and the rapid development of broadband networks, various network structures are integrated in the IP protocol, WAN bandwidth is growing. With the gradual resolution of related issues, high-speed Internet access to millions of households, VOD system based project has been basically mature. Video on demand system can be widely used in IPTV, digital libraries, distance learning, electronic commerce, KTV system and other areas.On the basis of the embedded s3c2410 hardware platform and linux operating system platform,this thesis researches on how to achieve a VOD player terminal the embedded device.There are two features in this thesis:In one aspect,according to the character of the embedded system,the streaming media VOD technology is introduced into the embedded system,and the real-time transfer and control of the VOD streaming media data is achieved through the RTSP and RTP/RTCP protocols.
