In modern scientific research, simulation technology improves the scientific research level,shortens research cycle, reduces research costs and risks, promotes the integration of different areas and accelerates research results into the productive forces.Westfalia Separator, an international famous brand, occupies a leading place in modern marine fuel purification system which guarantees the normal work of marine power plants. Carrying out systematic design and simulation of marine fuel purification system is therefore tremendously significant.To satisfy the requirement of our country on the outline of eligibility certification, examination and evaluation for shipping sailors and automated ship with AUT-0 system, fuel purification system consisting of Westfalia Separator is described briefly in this paper. Westfalia Separator simulation system is designed and implemented in accordance with characteristic of fuel purification system and program training requirement.Oil tanks, separators, piping and valves in fuel purification system are designed and model selected.Design and implementation of fuel purification system is the basis of the development of system simulation software, while mathematical model is its key factor.The dynamic mathematical models of fuel purification system include the models of oil separator, electric motor, oil supply pump, heater, oil and water tanks.The principle and establishment of the above models are described in detail in this paper. For the purpose of obtaining high precision simulation model,Matlab tools are used in more complicated dynamic mathematical models to construct models, modify parameters and analyze simulation results.The process of mathematical model into source code is illustrated during the design and implementation of oil separator and controller models.In the integrated development environment, fuel purification simulation software including lay out of fuel purification system,simulation of oil separator control and operation, alarm information display and simulated display of instrument data, etc. is developed through mastery of programming language Visual Basic, DLL technology and ActiveX controls.Finally,data exchange of the lower level computer and upper level computer of fuel purification system simulation software is defined by data communication protocol.As a result, a unity of fuel purification simulation system integrated with marine engineering simulator is developed.
