In the recent years, as the development of wireless communication technologies and embedded system, several kinds of new technologies combined with each other lead to some new methods, models and tecnologies to get and process data information, Zigbee is one of those new technologies. Zigbee wireless communication technology is based on IEEE 802.15.4 standards, as a new wireless communication protocol, it has some characteristics such as low complexity, short distance, low power consumption and low cost, which can be widely used in industrial control, medical, intelligent building system and consumer electronics. Thus has a great market development potential.As the development of Zigbee technology, there are more and more needs to get data collecting from Zigbee sensor network or to remote controlling the Zigbee sensor network through Internet. So design a wireless gateway to meet these requirements above and to realize Zigbee network and Internet shared data with each other become an urgent problem to be resolved. Because of the wireless local area network doesn't constrained by wiring and has high transmission speed, so that people can access Internet easily and quicky through WLAN. It is more and more widely used and we choose it as the way to access Internet.In this thesis, based on embedded system, Wi-Fi wireless wide-band technologies and Zigbee technologies, we designed an ARM based embedded Zigbee wireless gateway, which is used to transform protocols between Zigbee and Wi-Fi, realize the inter-connecting between Zigbee network and Internet.Based on in-depth research of Zigbee protocol, three parts of this gateway are designed and developed under the embedded Linux OS and ARM development platform, including the design of hardware circuit board, such as the selection of the main modules and the design of the interface circuit. Development of the related module's driver programs, and user application software, realize the function of this gateway finally. We test the function of gateway through up and down link network communication testings, the results showed that the embedded gateway could complete the protocol conversion and achieve the desired design goals.
