Wireless sensor networks(WSN) is one of the most influential technologies in the 21st century, and has been widely used in military and eivil areas. The wireless sensor network consists of a large quantity of sensor nodes whose power, calculation ability and bandwidth are so limited that traditional wireless routing protocol is not suitable for wireless sensor network.Designing capable of saving energy effieiently and extendingnet lifecycle is important in our researeh. Hiberarchy is mostly adopted in WSN. As WSN is established, the network is divided into some clusters.Every cluster is made up of a cluster head node and some cluster members. The cluster head manages to distribute resource in cluster and communication of clusters. Cluster members are responsible for data collecting and processing.Based on the clustering algorithm in the wireless sensor network, cluster heads consume more energy than the members. Firstly, based on LEACH, a assistant cluster head(ASCH) algorithm was proposed, and improved on it.In order to share the burden of the cluster head, the assistant cluster heads were generated in the corresponding cluster member nodes, and it has great help for decreasing the cluster heads' energy consume.Whether to generate the ASCH is dynamically decided by the own condition of the cluster head, then choosing the appropriate member node to be ASCH in the clusters for need. Then, the ASCH was applied to PEGASIS.Whether to generate the ASCH is decided by the cluster head's residual energy. If it is necessary, choosing the appropriate node to be ASCH in the cluster. The simulation results show that the algorithm compared with LEACH and PEGASIS algorithm, the proposed algorithm has more balanced energy consumption, decreases the energy consumption effectively, and prolongs the WSN's lifecycle.
