China is rich in resources of intangible cultural heritage(ICH), and the ICH is very renowned and unique in the word because of its unique national characteristics. However,as society changes, people pay more and more attention on entertainment and personalization, the spontaneous inheritance of ICH by oral teaching and memory can not adapt to the development of society, and gradually out of sight. In academic, how to better protect and inherit the ICH, as the new research object and area was put out.As one of the hottest current industries in China, animation is not only the sector of cultural industries, but also a form of artistic creation and entertainment, a medium of cultural transmission, and more, a tool of visual images which can be widely used in people’s life. Animation has a infectivity and affinity, and especially for groups of young people it has a natural attraction. Animation should be the active participant of ICH safeguarding, and it is also qualified for the task of inheritance of ICH. So in this essay I suppose that animation should be regarded as a mean which can promote the safeguarding and inheritance of ICH. Inheritance is the ultimate objective of ICH safeguarding, and this paper maintains that animation can effectively promote the inheritance of the ICH in contemporary society.Meanwhile, under the influence of social transformation brought by modernization and globalization, the historical background of one-sided pursued economic efficiency,Chinese animation industry appears many problems, such as making rough, not deep enough, lack of originality and nationality and so on. In fact, it once imitation the works of Japan and US. Therefore, this paper presents that for the development of Chinese animation industry, we need not only to absorb other countries’ outstanding creative material and inspiration, such as Japan, US, but also to pay attention to traditional culture,especially the ICH, making it a source of creativity development of Chinese animation industry. At the same time, ICH has been protected and inherited by the animation.
