After “The Second Opium War”, according to the treaty the missionaries started to publicly preach in Shandong province on a large scale. One notable feature is missions produced a great amount of missionary cases in the late of the 19 th century. Such a situation was evident in Shandong.The large of missionary cases became a precursor of the Boxer Movement have caused wide ly concern and greatly discussions. The Boxer Movement was always interpreted in new meanings with the development of the times and the social changes. Today how to define and evaluate it still has a major value and also significance in the future. This is particularly relevant to the frequently economic and cultural communication between C hina and the West, the historical development track of C hina from the traditional to the modern times, the meaning of the nation-state and so on.This article focuses on the missionary cases problem that cause diplomatic in Shandong during the Boxer rebellion. Missionaries and ministers used to write to Qing Government charged them with their C hinese believers suffer from extortion by means of violence and intimidation, so reported the list of extortion and put forward the various requirements. Based on the above reasons, the economic disputes between Chinese believers and others raised such intervention between C hina and foreign countries defined Extortion Cases in this paper. Quite a considerable number of cases not only provide the most directly internal situation about the conflict but also included the development and affected factors of the Boxer Movement. Using statistics method, this thesis will roundly inspect and quantitative analysis Extortion Cases during the movement.This article reviews the history of Christianity being spread to Shandong before the movement, it is briefly analyzed the reasons of early missionary cases and whatabout connection between a large scale conflict and Anti-C hurch. The cases of prep Movement can reflect that initial process of contradictions and running between the church and rural people in Shandong. As time develops, the contradictions had became one of the basic elements of the uprising, exert influence whether strong or weak.Secondly, the paper quantitative analysis on Extortion Cases and summarized characteristics of the cases based on historical materials. It involves quantitative characters of cases, distribution, allegations, development situations and affected factors, etc. The paper compared similarities and differences between the prep cases and the cases during movement. Based on analysis and synthesis,analysis reality and causes of the cases so that promote mysterious to be uncovered. There are many unrealistic among the cases. This happens for many reasons, canard and banditry were the important reasons. It also due to missionaries and believers misrepresented, exaggerated or distorted the loss. Actually in order to seek protect and a government pension as many as possible, these behaviors could not be done without the Western churches. Extortion Cases during the movement had an extremely negative effect on loss of property and life, social order and etc. Although the wealthy have an major wealth losses, the ordinary missionary believers and villagers suffered from the more serious impact for their poverty.At last, it analyzed how China and foreign countries carried on negotiation about Extortion Cases at that time. The method and process of negotiation were important steps for the movement’s occur and outcome. The Q ing Government and foreign countries have different legal intellection on comprehended the cases, they cannot reach an agreement in the process of dealing with the cases. The reasons behind the problem are worth our reflection and exploration. The vigorous movement end up with the Boxer indemnity and punished to the Boxers. But the movement has a far-reaching influence on the course of modernization in C hina as well as on the awakening of national consciousness. Based on Extortion Cases data analysis,the author attempts to find the significant influences involved in the Boxer Movement breaks out and puts forward personal views.
