At present, the national civil service system is being carried out in about 60 countries and regions to different degrees among the world. After experiencing the Program of Personnel System Reform for a long time, C hina established the civil service system in the late of its reform and opening up in 1978, and the system is still in use today. With the deep development of the current economic integration and the constant promotion of national political science and democratization, the role of civil servants in the world has become increasingly prominent, which led to a massive growth of the number of the population of civil servants. This paper summarizes the change of connotation and denotation of the image of civil servants by sorting out the civil servants images pedigree in new era officialdom novels. Based on the gambling conflict between public and individual desires, the article combines the historical background with the writer?s creation tendency and cultural traditions to dissect features and causes of the image of civil servants, which has profo und guiding significance and realistic value to the image and belief crisis caused by civil servants under the situation of lack of spiritual culture, and also have some reference for how literature care for and explore human nature.This paper is divided into five parts.The introduction part describes the reasons for the selection of the image of civil servants broadly. First, taking the time order as the vein, the article sorts out changes of civil service system deeply from far to near in all ages, which provides a basis for grasping changes of connotation and denotation of civil servants in different times. Secondly, the existing research status is analyzed, and its characteristics and shortcomings are pointed out, and the research ideas of this paper are briefly explained. Finally, it takes “the new era†as the research deadline, officialdom novels as research object, and defines evidence of the classification of characters, etc, which are integrated about the concepts.The first chapter is the research of positive image of civil servants. The image is characterized by restraint of selfish desires controlled by social morality. In themes it starts from officialdom novels such as reform novels and anti-corruption novels which have grand narrative topics, and then classifies the positive image of civil servants as ’pioneers’ with high position and ?an upright magistrate ’ opposing corruptness and encouraging incorruptness, at the same time, it explores the specific causes of the positive image by combining calling of historical turning point, tradition of hero narratives, cultural tradition and incorruptible-official complex.The second chapter is the research of negative image of civil servants. This image is characterized by restraint of social morality controlled by selfish desires. Therefore, it classifies the negative image of civil servants as buttoned-down reforming obstructionist, calculating political brokers and extremely extravagant and corrupt officials. Combined with three dimensions, which are the revelation of current social situation, narrative models of dual opposition and reading expectation of appreciation of ugliness, this article gives an emphatic interpret of negative image of civil servants? special function value and meanings.The third chapter is the research of the grey image of civil servants, which mainly characterized by swings between social morality and selfish desires. This chapter starts from officialdom ecological novels, and focus on civil servants with certain knowledge and accomplishment in official circles. Meanwhile, the chapter returns to humanity perspectives and draws a conclusion that civil servants? moral requests made by the society is because it surpasses individual property and labels civil servants as “groupâ€, therefore humanistic intrinsic requirements are ignored. As a result, the morality of respecting public and restraining privacy causes humanistic depression inevitably to some degrees. Probably facing selfish desires squarely and exploring a moral balance between the public and private are ways of survival and development in the group of civil servants. |
