China and Japan are neighbors, having inextricably linked and a long history of diplomatic and cultural exchanges. Japan’s calligraphy can be used as a witness. Exchange of calligraphy between the two countries has a lot of important figures in the exchange history of China-Japan. Although cultural exchange is a two-sided process of ingestion, absorption of one another’s cultures, in a different era have different trends and flows. Meiji period is one of the most important periods in the Japan’s history, Meiji Restoration made Japan from a backward country into a system of Western countries in the early modern State in East Asia, politics, economy and culture has had a tremendous change, during this period Japan’s calligraphy completed the modernization. Before the Meiji Restoration, the trend of cultural exchanges between China and Japan are almost Japan assimilated Chinese culture. Throughout history of Japan’s calligraphy, ancient Japan there is also Tago tablets and Ujibashi broken tablets, but calligraphers of later generations always focusing on people such as ErWang and Yan Zhenqing.
