With the fast development of the world-wide science、economy and trade, andthe growing comprehensive national power of china, Chinese gets its increasingimportance in the international communication and cooperation. Research onChinese-English compound words motivation plays an important role in the processof vocabulary teaching in teaching Chinese as a second language (TCSL). Thereasonable application of the motivation of Chinese and English compound words,combined with some certain teaching strategies can greatly improve the efficiency ofvocabulary teaching in TCSL. To comparatively study the characteristics of Chineseand English words formation is conducive to investigate the generality andindividuality of the words formation between Chinese and English, and will greatlyfacilitate efficiency and capacity in Chinese vocabulary learning for non-nativeChinese learners. The article mainly focuses on the motivation of Chinese andEnglish compound words, practically analyzes the motivation of some typical wordschosen from a TCSL book” Chinese Made Easier”, and narrates some correspondingteaching strategies, hoping to apply the research results to the words teachingpractice in TCSL, and improve the learning efficiency and ability of non-nativeChinese learners, enhancing their interests in Chinese learning.
