The ability to quickly and efficiently detect ecological stimuli, such as fearful faces, snakesand spiders, is vital for one’s survival. The mechanism about the focus of attention wasinvestigated and how do we react when we are in different situation in present study. The studytried to explain the reason from the perspective of evolution, self-preservation and provided newevidence to information processing modes of self-faces and fearful faces. In study1, the rapidseiral presentation(RS VP) paardigm was used to investigate the effect of self face and fearful facestimuli on the attentional blink(AB) in the general cases. In study2,the participants were underthreat and the rapid serial presentation(RSVP) paradigm was used to investigate the effect of selfface and fearful face stimuli on the attentional blink(AB).The results shows:1) The attentional blink happened when T2was neutral faces in thegeneral cases. Results showed that performance accuracy of T2was enhanced on trials in whichthe second target was an self-faces and fearful faces of others, rather than a neutral face. Moreimportant, self-faces were detected more otfen than fearful faces in general cases.2) However, thisadvantage for self-faces disappeared for the threatening situation, during which fearful and selffaces were detected equally often. These results suggest that self faces are given higher priority inprocessing compared with fearful faces in general cases. But the advantage will change when thesituation was changed.
