With the development of campus network construction, campus network's contents are more plentiful, its functions are more powerful and complicated. Further more, with the prevalence of campus network's broad band, the number of students surfing on the campus network is increasing rapidly. All these will bring forward more and higher demands on the construction of campus network. This dissertation first compares .Net and J2EE platform, illustrates the advantage of J2EE, analyses the shortcomings of traditional two-tier C/S architecture and the merits of multi-tier architecture. Then, introduces and analyses J2EE's multi-tier architecture, APIs, EJB component technology, MVC design pattern and Struts framework. Finally, based on the research on the actuality of course selection system, adopting object-oriented thinking and J2EE's multi-tier architecture, in the integrated development environment of Jbuilder+Weblogic+SQLServer2000, combining Struts framework and design patterns, designs a course selection system. This system has improvements in many aspects compared with systems designed by traditional methods, it is secure, high-performance and maintainable system. I believe, with the development of campus network and campus network's functions being more powerful and complicated, designing web applications by traditional methods will certainly encounter many difficulties, the architecture and design methods of this system provide a good idea for the construction of campus network in the future.
