Research And Implementation Of Courseware Conversion Tool

Now, the mainstream development of long-distance education is interactive learning in digital environment, by computer network technique and multimedia digital technique, i.e. on-line education. The situation of our country is huge size of education vs. relative lack of educational resources; therefore, the active development of on-line education is necessary. On-line courseware is an important part of on-line education, and is main carrier of teaching information. Because the development of long-distance education resources, especially courseware resources, is distributed, the form and format of existing long-distance education courseware is varied, this makes exchange and reuse of courseware very difficult, and courseware in some form and format cannot be used well in on-line teaching. How to use a mass of existing resources, develop on-line courseware quickly and effectively is one of important problems in the development of long-distance education. Thus, the research of the tools, which can convert courseware in varied form and format to standard on-line courseware automatically, has great promotion to construct of on-line education resources. This paper originates from "courseware conversion tool"subject, that is a part of national "tenth five"important project of science and technology, "courseware developing and intelligent answer tool". The aim of this research is, through researching the theory, specification, and relational model of on-line courseware standardization, on the base of making a standard courseware model, designing and developing a courseware conversion tool. This tool can convert some kinds of nonstandard courseware to standard on-line courseware, and get all kinds of resources in courseware, such as image, text, audio, video, animation etc. This paper analyzes the varied forms and their differences of existing on-line courseware, describes the problems such as varied formats, inefficient developing, and difficult reuse etc., points out the significance of on-line education resource's standardization, specially on-line courseware's standardization. National and international actuality of on-line courseware's standardization is introduced. Through researching CELTS specification, we establish a standard courseware model. On the base of this model, we design and develop courseware conversion tool based on XML. This paper expatiate mostly establishment of courseware model, binding courseware model with XML, system design of the tool, and development of four main modules. At last, this paper sum up the content of research, give advice on improving courseware conversion tool and farther research. In the designing and developing software of this research, the involved techniques are: object-oriented technique, JAVA, JNI and COM component, XML, XSL, DOM, HTML+TIME, etc.
